Hockey goalkeepers and their coaches at Dereham.

Des D'Souza helped organise the ninth annual coaching day for hockey goalkeepers which was held on Sunday at Dereham Hockey Club.

The very successful day was led by an experienced coach and attracted 33 keepers from Norfolk clubs and schools, including eight keepers from Dereham Hockey Club.

Dereham Colts Firsts 7, Reepham 2

IN their first home friendly the Colts looked lively and hungry and went 4-0 up in the first half, controlling the game and playing some impressive hockey.

The first two goals came from Sam Skelton at short corners. Sarah Gibb was unlucky not to do the same with Rachel Lavers altering the short corner routines well.

Player of the match Charlotte Reeve took the next two goals, both from open play, the second being the pick of the first half.

A great hockey move started at the back, was played down the left and worked into the circle by Ellie Boyce. Then top-class movement and stick skills from Reeve helped her lose her marker and she fired home.

The second half saw Reepham push an extra player up front and chase the game. Defenders Hannah Turner and Zoe Taylor marked and tackled well, but with the extra player there was always an attacker free and Dereham goalkeeper, Annie Shayes stood no chance of saving an excellent free shot from the top of circle.

The Colts stuck to their game of fast flowing passing. Gibb got on the score sheet after more good work by Boyce, and Reeve claimed her hat-trick following Fran D' Souza's hard work and quality final ball.

Reepham scored another goal seconds after the restart, catching the Dereham defence on the hop, reminding them that concentration is needed to the final whistle.

Reeve ended the game on a high and claimed her fourth goal, giving her the perfect start to what will hopefully be a prolific season.

All the Colts played well, and as fitness and confidence grows the league games should be as enjoyable.
