His name is Rocky and he is attempting a fierce physical feat through sheer grit and determination.

But this isn't the movies - the Rocky in question is a 10-year-old from Dereham.

And young Rocky Spencer is in the midst of an altogether different challenge to his boxing namesake.

The lad had done around 1,400 burpees towards a month-long goal of 2,000, raising money for the Bone Cancer Research Trust.

Proud dad Nick Spencer, 44, said he was inspired by his son's progress so far.

Mr Spencer said: “I was a little apprehensive as he is only 10, but Rocky really wanted to do it.

“Whenever he puts himself to anything sport related, his attitude and work ethic, especially with his football, is spot on. He just does it.

“I always knew he would do it, but thought he would do his daily 72 and spread it out over the month. But he has exceeded my expectations.

“It is inspiring and makes me want to go to the gym.”

Mr Spencer said each day, Rocky was averaging around 100 burpees - an exercise that combines a press-up with a jump.

He said Rocky was determined to work on his fitness after being told last year he could have a chance of getting into Norwich City’s academy programme.

Rocky’s grandad is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, another why the youngster wanted to get involved.

Rocky now has free access to Dereham's Sanctuary Gym for his challenge, after his dad got in touch with the gym to tell them about his son's goal.

Since then, he has been impressing staff with his work ethic.

He has already raised more than £230, smashing his target of £150.
