A cancer support group is set to launch its first public office and support hub.

Caring Friends for Cancer will open a centre on Norwich Street in Dereham on March 18, to support those living or affected by the disease.

The group, founded in 2014, offers a range of services for people including helping to reduce isolation, anxiety and other negative impacts on mental and emotional health.

Suzanne Chapman, Caring Friends' manager, said: “We wanted to open up to have somewhere all in one palace for our users to access with ease.

“We are very excited about this new prospect of helping people and their families.

"We are all looking forward to this new chapter and hope to help as many people as possible going forward.”

The charity is based in Swanton Morley but this will be its first office open to the public.

It already offers face-to-face services including weekly coffee mornings and social events at Dereham’s Wetherspoon.

At the hub, people will be able to access advice and therapeutic services such as reflexology and reiki, and mobility aid equipment to assist with independent living.

People will also be able to get support organising respite breaks, and there will be regular coffee mornings, bingo, craft events and book social outings.

Mrs Chapman said: “We are the only charity in town that drives people to any medical appointments, at hospitals, local doctors and Covid appointments.

“Our volunteers can help with filling in claim forms in your own home. We also have fully qualified nursing staff. Counselling can also be provided in your own home or in our office.”

The office came around after it spoke with its service users to find out their thoughts on having the space where people could call in and arrange any help they need.
