It was all eyes on the future at Mid- Norfolk high schools this week as students returned after the summer holidays to pick up their GCSE results.

Pupils at Dereham Neatherd High School celebrated their results, leading them into their next life steps.

One of the biggest smiles belonged to 15-year-old Laura Vogel, from Swaffham, who achieved nines in everything, bar an eight in English Language.

“I was hoping for it, as I was predicted mostly 9s, so I am thrilled, I started crying when I opened them up and I am still shaking now,” she said.

“It feels great to have these results, my hard work has paid off. I am now going to do my A-levels in Dereham, and will study Spanish, biology, maths and geography.”

Another student who is planning for their A-levels in September is Dali Brady, who will be attending the Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form in Norwich.

She passed all her exams, including five nines in her studies.

“I feel really good about my results, it is a big relief because you don’t know how it will go after you put in all that work,” she said.

Jaime Mallett, the headteacher at Neatherd, added: “We are incredibly proud of all Year 11 pupils in what was our biggest-ever cohort.

"With much hard work – and the tireless support and encouragement of their teachers, support staff and families – they have achieved excellent exam results and, moreover, are ready to step out into the world as thoroughly respectful, compassionate and decent young adults.

“I am very happy, I was hoping for an eight in one of my English subjects, but I am still very happy," he said.

“I am really pleased with my eight in maths as well, as I spent a lot of time revising it.”
