A Dereham couple who have been lighting up Christmas for almost three decades has put its display up for sale.

Dennis and Mandy Firmage, who live in Toftwood, are famed across the local area for their extravagant garden display.

However, the lights on Farm Way, which became an annual pilgrimage for hundreds of people every year, are now up for sale.

Mr and Mrs Firmage have dedicated their time to brightening up people's lives, having decorated their home in Little Snoring for a decade before they moved to Toftwood, where they have put on dazzling displays for the past 18 years.

“My husband is over 80 and I’m not too far short,” Mrs Firmage said.

“Christmas 2022 was the final time, we decided before the lights went up that it was, and we told neighbours they would not return.

"We've loved doing it, it gives pleasure to other people. It will be strange without them as I'd go out twice an evening every night when they are up to watch them, but my husband will be a very relieved man."

The couple had used the festive season as an opportunity to raise money for various good causes including East Anglia's Children's Hospices, Nelson's Journey and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Although they do not know the exact figure, Mrs Firmage believed it to be several thousands of pounds raised through the kind donations given by the public.

“It feels great to help as these charities are there for so many people, but we wouldn’t be anywhere without the support, so thanks to everyone who donated.”

The only year the couple did not put up all the lights was 2021, as Mr Firmage was recovering from major surgery.

Now the lights are up for sale, varying in price between £5 to £20, with sales happening at their home at 1 Farm Way, NR19 1SF. Mrs Firmage has asked anyone interested in buying lights to come to the door before 6pm.
