Almost £100,000 will help support those living with cancer in Dereham.

Dereham Cancer Care (DCC) is celebrating being awarded £98,920 of National Lottery funding over the next three years to support people whose lives are affected by the disease.

The funds will support its work with cancer patients and their loved ones by being used to maintain and develop DCC’s services and to enable greater outreach to the wider community through links with local businesses and schools.

Zoe Flint, manager of DCC, said: “We are absolutely over the moon with the news of the community grant, this will enable us to continue to support local people affected by cancer and enable us to develop our services even more.

“We are currently working on our wellbeing service to expand to local businesses and employers.

"This grant is a testament to our developing work and our amazing volunteers, trustees and supporters – thank you”

DCC was founded in 2002 by Janet Money and operates from its centre in Dereham, offering drop-in sessions, social events, workshops, equipment loans, befriending, sign-posting to other organisations, and complementary therapies to cancer patients and their loved ones.

It also provides respite breaks at its holiday home on the Norfolk coast.

Drop-in sessions run four days a week and there are monthly evening and weekend sessions.

The National Lottery Community Fund distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes and is the largest community funder in the UK

The new funding will enable DCC to reach out to more people.
