A Land Rover stuck in the mud on a town moor has sparked calls to the police.

Norfolk Police were at Neatherd Moor, in Dereham this morning after the Land Rover Freelander was found by locals on the green space, covered in mud and appearing to be stuck.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Police, said: "Police were called at 9.29am this morning to Crown Road in Dereham/Neatherd Moor, after reports of people behaving antisocially in a field and possible criminal damage to the field."

A female dog walker, who did not wish to give her name, was at Neatherd Moor this morning when they found the vehicle left in the mud.

She first heard of the car last night (March 7), after their partner took the dog for a walk, and “a group of people asked if he had seen a Land Rover anywhere".

She said: “I was a little annoyed when he told me. People have done this before, going onto the field to do doughnuts, the council installed posts to stop cars from getting through from the car park.

“Initially, I laughed, but now it has made me angry as they have trashed the field, after all the rain it is like a quagmire, and they have turfed up what was starting to dry up.

“There should be some repercussions for it, laughing aside, it is comical to see it, but the community around here use the space for dog walking and children playing, so when people do this, it spoils it for everyone else.”

They added there appeared to be wood around the wheel to “get some grip”, but it “looks like it’s been dug even further into the mud".

Breckland Council, which oversees part of Neatherd Moor, says it is aware of the vehicle and has been in conversations with the police, who told them the owner of the vehicle is organising recovery.
