A Norfolk brewery has scooped the bronze prize at a national beer award ceremony.

Moon Gazer Ales, based in Hindringham, won the prize in the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) beer awards against beers from all over the UK.

The beer in question is its Cheeky Jack IPA which walked away with bronze in the pale ales 4.5-5 per cent abv category.

The SIBA Awards seek the best breweries and beer industry businesses across the UK.

Hundreds of beers entered the national final after qualifying through regional heats.

Cheeky Jack bagged gold in the regional awards having already won the title of Norfolk Champion Cask Beer 2023, awarded by the Norwich and District CAMRRA – making it a three-time winner.

Brewery co-founder David Holliday, said: “It’s a great accolade.

"First and foremost, we focus on quality and great beer, to have SIBA recognise those efforts is extra special.

“For Cheeky Jack to win three prestigious awards in a 12-month period just fills the whole team with pride – we always knew it was a great beer, but to have others endorse your view is always fantastic.”

Moon Gazer Ales was also considered for two further awards by SIBA for its charity work, and for connecting the brewing regions of Belgium and Norfolk.

Mr Holliday said: “While we didn’t win the other awards to hear your efforts congratulated in front of the very best of British brewers was a great experience - especially when you consider how small we are as a brewery.

"It was a great honour.”

The business was recognised for its efforts in raising funds and awareness of testicular cancer and Norfolk based charity It’s On the Ball.

Mr Holliday's fundraising efforts included pushing a 75kg barrel of beer the distance of a marathon every day for a week, a 186-mile tour of Norfolk.

The fundraising for this effort topped £42,000.

He said: “I guess if I keep pushing the barrel and raising money they will have to give in to me one year.“
