An inquest has been opened into the death of man who was discovered at his home by his friend of 20 years.

Mark Emery, who lived off Norwich Road in Dereham, was found by Shane Gray inside his home on November 3, 2023.

The 53-year-old had been suffering from bronchopneumonia and his friends had become concerned for him.

Area coroner, Samantha Goward, opened the inquest at Norfolk Coroner’s Court on March 26.

She said: “He had not been seen for a few days by friends, and no one could get in touch with him.

“A friend attended his home address and gained access with a spare key, and sadly found him deceased in the properly.”

She confirmed that Mr Emery had been born on September 22, 1970, in nearby Litcham.

The primary medical cause of death was given as respiratory failure.

A full inquest to determine the official cause of death will take place later in the year in August.
