A weight-loss group marked its fitness journey by donating 358 bags of outgrown clothes to help battle cancer.

The Taverham Slimming World group led by Chelsea Pennell ran the decluttering effort between April 14 and 27, followed by a donation to Cancer Research UK, which exceeded £11,000.

Chelsea said: “I am totally blown away by the total raised this year.

"My dad was diagnosed with Lymphoma in December and this year two of my lovely members have been diagnosed too, so this year more than ever I have made it my mission to raise as much money as possible for this very worthy charity.

"I am so proud of my members, not only to be their Slimming World consultant but to be able to make such a difference to Cancer Research UK.”

Members discarded clothes that no longer fit them as a symbol of their ongoing weight loss journey.

Previous fundraising efforts from the Slimming World members, consultants and head office staff conjured up more than £1.4m for the charity through the annual clothes throw.

A special thank you was given to members Ellen Guild, Sue Hales, Barbara Cross-Gower and Carolyn Penn, proud weight loss achievers who lent their hands in transporting the donations.

Chelsea added: “We all know that being overweight has been shown to increase the risk of developing cancer.

"Losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight could prevent around 22,800 cases of cancer every year in the UK.”
