A man has denied pointing a loaded semi-automatic pistol at his ex-girlfriend and her mother when they came to collect belongings from his grandfather’s house in East Tuddenham, a court has heard.

Abdul Bailey, 21, is standing trial at Norwich Crown Court charged with multiple firearms offences, and is joined in the dock by his mother and sister. All three are accused of perverting the course of justice.

On January 6 last year, Abdul Bailey was waiting at the house on Mattishall Road when his ex and her mother arrived.

They had been in a relationship since 2012 but “she wanted to break up with him because he was prone to outbursts,” prosecutor Charles Falk told the court.

“She had met somebody else and was petrified how he would react.”

As she packed away her belongings Bailey became “increasingly anxious and agitated,” Mr Falk said.

“Some of her belongings were in another room and as she went to leave the defendant blocked the door.

“He was standing with his right hand in his jacket pocket. He pulled out a gun, pointed it at her chest, and said ‘do you think you are going somewhere now?’”

Eventually he claimed he was joking and put the gun away but she “burst into tears and started hitting and scratching him”, added Mr Falk.

The commotion was heard by Bailey’s grandfather and his ex partner’s mother, who challenged him over the gun.

He pulled out the gun a second time, pointed it at her mother, and said ‘get out of the way or I will shoot you’, the court heard.

Mr Falk said: “At this point grandad stepped in between Bailey and the two women and shouted ‘run’ to the women several times.”

The court heard a previous trial in 2017 was disrupted after Bailey’s ex-girlfriend wrote a letter claiming she had lied.

The prosecution say she was coerced into doing so by Bailey, his mother and sister.

Bailey is charged with possessing a semi-automatic pistol, two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possessing 96 rounds of .22 long rifle bullets and possessing a firearm and ammunition when prohibited following a prison sentence.

Cindy Burr, 49, and Sumayyah Bailey, 19, both of Station Road, Great Ryburgh, are charged jointly with Bailey of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The trial continues.
