A police chase which saw up to 12 officers in pursuit for 20 miles across mid-Norfolk has led to the opening of an investigation.

It comes following a burglary at a farm in the north Norfolk village of Binham, between Thursford and Stiffkey, where a number of power tools and a rucksack were stolen.

The burglary happened at about noon on Thursday, February 1.

The tools were later discovered near Marriott’s Way in Taverham, near Norwich.

Police are also appealing for anybody with dashcam footage.

It is after a blue Ford Focus was involved in a police pursuit, which saw a total of 12 officers deployed at different times along the A1067 Fakenham to Ringland, near Taverham, on the same day between 12.20pm and 1pm.

The car would have travelled along the busy road through villages including Little Ryburgh, Guist, Twyford, Foxley, Great Witchingham, Lenwade, and Morton-on-the-Hill.

The pursuit was eventually stopped by officers due to safety concerns.

The same car was also spotted prior to the chase, being driven in Morrisons car park in Fakenham, before it was later abandoned.

Police believe that the two incidents, the burglary and pursuit, are linked.

Two people were arrested but have now been released.

A Norfolk police spokesperson said: “Our investigation continues.”

Officers also discovered a tractor battery inside the boot of the car and are currently trying to reunite it with its owner. It has not however been reported stolen and does not match any crime reported to Norfolk police.

PC Jonathan Parker appealed on Twitter to help find its owner and tweeted: “This battery, likely to be from a tractor or similar, has been recovered. Believed stolen form the Wells, North Norfolk area.”

Officers are especially keen to hear from any witnesses who may have seen the blue Ford Focus, or its driver, on Marriott’s Way between the times stated.

Anyone with dashcam footage or information is asked to contact PC Jonathan Parker at Fakenham Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Anyone with information about the battery is asked to quote reference 36/6441/18.
