Bargain hunters will be able to get their hands on a treasure chest of rare antiques and historical artefacts as the county’s grand houses once again clear out their attics.

The Stately Car Boot sale, in aid of the Norfolk Churches Trust, returns again to Sennowe Park at Guist on Sunday, with more than 5,000 people expected to be rummaging through the antiques and bygones.

Art dealer Philip Mould, known to viewers of BBC programmes Fake or Fortune and Antiques Roadshow, will open the sale at 10am.

Co-chairman of the organising committee, Henrietta Lindsell, hopes it will raise £60,000 for the Norfolk Churches Trust to help protect some of the county’s most iconic religious buildings.

She said: “This really is a very rare chance not only to buy some truly unique items, but also to experience the beautiful grounds at Sennowe Park, home to Mr and Mrs Charlie Temple Richards, who have donated their grounds for this occasion. It’s always a great day out and we are hoping to raise much-needed funds for the trust at the same time.”

As well as buying items, visitors will be able to have their own pieces, and those they have just bought valued by auctioneers Cheffins. Previous years have seen unusual items such as a tiger’s head sold for £280 and a Bentley sold for £6,000.

As well as stalls there will be a silent auction throughout the day. Top prizes include a drawing by Antony Gormley, dinner in a stately home hosted by the owners, and a behind-the-scenes tour of Sandringham, to name but a few.

Bids can be placed in advance by email to patrick.lines@gmail.com stating the lot number, a brief description, the amount bid, and the bidders name, address, email and telephone number, up until 5pm on Friday, April 28.

On the day bids can be made at the VIP Tent or the NCT Tent on the bidding slips provided. Bidding closes at 2.30pm on Sunday and winners will be announced at about 3pm.

This year’s event runs from 10am until 3.30pm. Entry costs £5 per person with under 16s free. Details of all the items in the silent auction can be found here .

All enquiries should be sent to statelycarboot@gmail.com.
