A community group that regularly gives support to children with serious illnesses has donated funds to a teenager with a rare form of anaemia.

The Swaffham Lions said they have donated £500 to an appeal set up for Swaffham teenager, Archie Ramshaw, who has lived with the condition since the age of seven.

He was diagnosed with congenital sideroblastic anaemia in October 2010, which means that his body is unable to transfer the iron in his blood into haemoglobin, which red cells need to transport oxygen efficiently.

Now aged 14, Archie has had more than 150 blood transfusions and needs to take 11 tablets each day.

The Lions said they are now looking for more ways to give support to Archie during his treatment. They have previously given support to a range of local causes, including holding fund raising events for Sophie Burke, a Swaffham teenager with a rare genetic condition.
