It has been put together by local charity Age UK Norfolk and Wells Dementia Friendly Community Group and features a range of advice for bed and breakfast owners.

The information is based on feedback given by local carers and provides various tips, including how the little touches can often provide a great deal of support for someone with the disorder.

It includes tips such as laying out tea bags, coffee sachets, milk and sugar separately to help.

It reads: “When sachets and tea bags are jumbled together it can be confusing.”

Amelia Worley, community development coordinator for Age UK Norfolk, said: “What makes this leaflet great is that all the tips come directly from family carers and ex-carers living in Norfolk and are based on their personal experiences of holidaying with loved ones who have dementia.

“The leaflet is all about the small, simple changes that bed and breakfast owners can easily achieve to make guests affected by dementia feel more welcome and relaxed.

“We look forward to seeing some of the tips put into action.”

Its launch was attended by the Wells Dementia Friendly Community Group, which includes county councillor Dr Marie Strong.

MP Norman Lamb, who spoke at the launch of Wells as a dementia friendly community in 2015, also attended, along with Nick Conrad from BBC Radio Norfolk.

Mr Conrad, who won the Alzheimer’s Society ‘Outstanding Contribution of the Year’ accolade in 2016, said: “What they have achieved in Wells is fantastic.

“By turning Wells into a dementia friendly tourist destination, the community is taking a proactive approach to embrace the challenges that dementia can bring and also providing a solution.

“This excellent information leaflet for bed and breakfast owners could make a real difference to carers and those living with dementia when visiting Wells and is a great example of a community who cares.”
