Pupils at a school in Norfolk have come together together to bring Christmas cheer to those less fortunate by putting together hampers to donate to the Salvation Army.

The food collection idea came after the year eight students at Northgate High School had a visit from Major Loes Palmer, commanding officer of Dereham Salvation Army, who discussed the nationwide Tins and Toys Appeal.

The students were set the challenge to think about the types of food they would eat at Christmas and each tutor group set out to fill a box with tins and packets of food.

Major Loes was then invited back to receive the food donations from the representatives of each of the tutor groups.

The donations will go towards around 150 food hampers that will be put together this Christmas. They will later be distributed, along with toys donated by the public and Salvation Army Corp, to those in need in our local community.
