A small village school achieved two big ambitions with the opening of a new play space and kitchen.

Walsingham C of E Primary celebrated the completion of both projects in style.

Special guest Walsingham Abbey estate officer at Elizabeth Meath-Baker pronounced the playground open before cutting the ribbon on the new kitchen.

Pupils handed out fabulous cakes that they had made for the occasion earlier in the day.

The junior children then performed to the parents and visitors on their newly acquired ukuleles with senior teacher Marshall Schaitel.

Executive headteacher Mary Dolan said: “It is so important for children to learn the life skills of cooking and to taste the widest possible range of foods, especially those that we are able to grow in the school garden.”

The play area was funded with the help of a charitable donation and tireless fund raising by the Friends of Walsingham School.

The new kitchen was put straight into use the following day as the whole school made pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.
