A restaurant apprentice from Fakenham challenged MPs to take part in pint-pulling, spud peeling, dough stretching, bottle opening and cocktail making during an Apprenticeship Week event at the House of Commons.

Harley Dawson, from the Running Horse in Fakenham attended the first combined pub, bar, brewing and casual dining showcase in front of government ministers, MPs, parents, trade associations and company representatives.

Community and Pubs Minister Andrew Percy said: “This industry offers a range of brilliant jobs which contribute to the UK economy.” He added that it was time for the industry to make a case to various groups – especially parents – to consider it as a career choice.

Harley, who joined Marston’s straight from school, was supported at the event by his general manager Rob Goodwin. He is now at second chef level, playing an integral part of the management team at the pub and restaurant.
