Fakenham church clock set for repairs to strike on the hour

After months of not striking on the hour, the clock in Fakenham’s Parish Church is being taken away to be restored to full working order.
The clock, which will be taken for repairs on Monday, was installed in 1864 to strike on the hour but in 1947 quarter chimes were installed in recognition of the sacrifice made by the men listed on the town war memorial.
But having fallen into disrepair, the hourly strike no longer works.
At an estimated cost of £4,000, Fakenham Parish Church has arranged to have the clock fully repaired so that the hourly chime can once again be heard.
Churchwarden, Keith Osborn, said: “It’s part of the town’s heritage and we’re committed to keeping it well maintained. If anyone feels able to help with a donation towards the cost, large or small, we would be very grateful”.
