GP appointed to help transform region’s cancer services

A trained GP will take the lead in clinical changes to cancer treatment in the regions, as part of Norfolk and Waveney’s healthcare overhaul.

Dr Linda Hunter has been appointed as cancer clinical lead for the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP).

She will work to provide clinical support and advice to the STP in a joint appointment supported by the East of England Cancer Alliance and Macmillan.

Dr Hunter has experience in primary care and commissioning as a GP. She trained at Guys Hospital in London and undertook a GP training scheme in Norfolk. She is a clinical commissioning lead for NHS North Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Macmillan GP for the central Norfolk CCGs.

Previously she has held roles as a GP member of Norfolk Health Authority, Norfolk GP commissioning group, on the board of Broadland and North Norfolk Primary Care Groups and senior GP partner at Hoveton and Wroxham Medical Practice.

She said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to this role and it will work well with my responsibilities at NHS North Norfolk CCG where I lead on clinical prescribing and cancer. Much progress has already been made in the STP on cancer and I am looking forward to progressing the cancer transformation programme in Norfolk and Waveney alongside NHS and Public Health colleagues.”

Mark Davies, chief executive of Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and cancer lead for the STP said: “This is marvellous news for the STP, our work on cancer will greatly benefit from Linda’s experience.”

Antek Lejk, chief officer for South Norfolk and North Norfolk CCGs, and executive lead for the Norfolk and Waveney SPT, added: “I am very pleased to welcome Linda to her new role. Her experience and knowledge will be of invaluable support to the STP.”
