Harley-Davidson group celebrates 25 years of coming to Fakenham

A Harley-Davidson group has marked a quarter of a century of visiting Fakenham with a special ride through the town.

The Fenlanders Chapter of the Harley-Davidson Owner’s Group (HOG) has been holding an annual ride through Fakenham to the north Norfolk coast for the last 25 years.

But it is only the second successive year that HOG members have stopped in Fakenham for a town centre celebration.

This was organised by Liam O’Sullivan, who owns Gallery Bistro, butcher Sam Papworth and Neil Sturman, from HOG.

The town was packed out on Saturday morning.

People met with the riders, and enjoyed American music, a barbecue and stalls.

Some 400 classic Harley-Davidson motorcycles were on show.

Riders came from across the UK and overseas.

There were HOG members from Spain, France, Holland and Belgium taking part and the ride raised money for the RNLI.

HOG member Steve Dorrington, 63, from Watton, said: “We get riders from far and wide come to this and it is a real highlight of the year.

“The people of Fakenham have always made us feel so welcome, there’s a great atmosphere here and the ride up the coast is always really special.”

Mr O’Sullivan said: “It’s been an amazing day and it’s really good for Fakenham to have so many people out in the town enjoying themselves.

“The Harley riders have really enjoyed coming here as well.

“We’re already looking to next year and seeing what we can do to improve the event even further and making it bigger and better.”

After the riders headed off to Sheringham, the entertainment continued in Fakenham in the afternoon with a Ukeleles 4 All event.

Anyone who owns a ukelele was invited to strum along in the town centre.

Ukeleles 4 All was organised by Active Fakenham.

It is one of a series of musical events to promote a new music festival, due to be held in Fakenham town centre on Saturday, August 19.

This will feature folk music in the town centre from 12pm until 5.30pm, followed by more upbeat music until 8pm and live music at venues around the town until late.
