A housing developer from Norfolk is offering a reward for information on two men who broke into one of the company’s sites in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Abel Homes announced that they are offering a £5,000 reward for information leading to the successful prosecution of the perpetrators who were caught on CCTV, despite them breaking the camera fixings.

The theft took place at the site compound at Abel Homes’ The Hops site, off Norwich road, in Hingham at 2.25am on Sunday morning.

The two men prised open steel shutters before stealing a laptop computer and iPad, as well as valuable power tools.

They spent almost three hours at the compound and broke CCTV camera fixings but the cameras continued to record the theft.

Several crates containing motorcycle spares were found dumped at the site and Abel Homes said they believe this was to make room in their vehicle for the stolen tools and equipment.

The company’s production manager Robert Loudoun said they are “angry and frustrated” at the theft, which included property owned by the company as well as power tools belonging to tradesmen who have been working on the site.

“The result will be cost and inconvenience for all concerned,” he continued. “At a time when house builders are extremely busy ensuring that homes are completed for those moving in before Christmas.

“We will be reviewing security at all our sites and have offered a substantial reward because we want to send out a message that we will do everything we can to identify anyone targeting construction sites for theft.”

At the beginning of October Norfolk Police issued a warning for residents to be vigilant after there were five incidents at building sites across the county within two weeks.

Superintendent, Dave Marshall, said at the time: “I would urge building companies to ensure they keep their sites locked and secure, as well as take some simple crime prevention measures, such as marking tools and property.

“I would also encourage local residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour around building sites to police.”

Anyone with any information about the Abel Homes theft or wishing to report suspicious activity can call the police on 101.
