A man in his 60s has died in a crash on the A47 at Scarning.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened near to the junction with Drayton Hall Road shortly before 2pm on Friday.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passengers in the second vehicle did not suffer serious injury but were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and re-opened at about 6.15pm.

It is the third fatality on Norfolk’s roads this week.

A man in his 30s died in a crash on the A148 in Sculthorpe, near Fakenham yesterday (Thursday). And a man in his 50s died following a crash on the A11 at Bridgham.

Chief Inspector Kris Barnard, head of Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing Unit, said: “Sadly today we’ve seen another tragedy on our roads and our thoughts are with the families and friends affected by these incidents.

“Full and thorough investigations will be carried out into all three collisions, it would therefore be inappropriate for me to comment further about the causes of these crashes.

“I would however like to take this opportunity to urge all drivers to take extra care when travelling. Many people will no doubt be making journeys during the festive period and I would encourage everyone to allow plenty of time for their journeys and drive to the conditions.”

A 20-year-old self-employed videographer, who asked not be named, was travelling witnessed the crash.

He said: “I was travelling from Norwich coming into Dereham to drop off some Christmas presents at home.

“My car had a lot of debris go all over it and the road was in a pretty bad state.

“I gave a statement to the police but I’m unhurt.

“It’s not a nice thing to see and my thoughts are with those who were worse affected.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision at Scarning should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
