The county flag has been around since the 12th century and is hanging high above the Breckland Council offices in Dereham to celebrate the first ever Norfolk day on Friday July 27.

In his speech, Chairman of the council Richard Duffield said: “I’m delighted that we are able to support the Norfolk Day initiative as it provides an opportunity to celebrate the many reasons it is fantastic to live and work in our fair county.

“Alongside our partner organisations, local businesses and communities across Norfolk, we can all share in being proud of where we live and unite in championing the often unique, but sometimes overlooked, aspects of Norfolk.”

Over 200 events have been organised across the region for Norfolk day which include a picnic and children’s talent show in Mattishall, a celebration of Norfolk coastal food in Yaxham and a 1940s themed afternoon tea and dance in Dereham.
