Passionate response in Fakenham forces road works to be rescheduled

The temporary closure of a major road into Fakenham has been rescheduled after an angry response from businesses.

The closure of Oak Street has been moved to a single day in November after the initial plan to close it for three days in December was called “disastrous” for Christmas trade by businesses and “ludicrous” by Town Mayor George Acheson.

The passionate response prompted Norfolk County Council to reject the proposed dates and forced Anglian Water, who made the request, to revise their plans.

The company has now been given approval to close the road on November 20.

Shortly before the new date was confirmed, a spokesperson from the company said: “We know how disruptive roadworks can be, that’s why we’re working with Highways to bring the work planned on Oak Street forward and avoid the Christmas shopping period.”

A diversion will be in place during the closure.
