Thousands of people have flocked to the picturesque surroundings of Holkham Hall, near Wells. over the weekend for the event, including serious riders and huge numbers of families.

The three-day festival continues on Monday and the beautiful bank holiday weather is likely to see cyclists out in force again.

The idea for the event was dreamed up last September and planning began in November.

Organiser Peter Flett said: “As a first event we were not sure what to expect. But we are really pleased how it has gone so far and we have been super busy and the weather has been absolutely stunning.

“What has been especially great are the numbers of children taking part in the children’s events.”

The festival - which it is hoped will become an annual event - is aimed all ages and cycling abilities.

Over the three days, about 500 people will have ridden up to 250 miles on signposted routes starting and finishing at Holkham.

There have also been shorter and more leisurely rides and a wide variety of children’s activities.

Sprint cyclist Victoria Williamson, who grew up in Norfolk, was a special guest at the festival.

She won silver in the 500m time trial at the 2011 Juniors Track World Championships in Moscow.

Earlier this year in Minsk, she picked up a bronze with partner Becky James in the team sprint.

She is currently in training and on Saturday she rode 20 miles and yesterday she started the riders off.

As well as day visitors, about 60 tents have been pitched by campers at the hall.
