A police officer from Norfolk helped to save the life of a man who went into cardiac arrest in Fakenham.

Emergency services were called at around 8.45am on Tuesday morning to reports that a man in his 60s was unconscious and not breathing at the Fakenham Racecourse campsite.

A police vehicle was dispatched, along with two rapid response medical vehicles, an ambulance and the air ambulance.

On the way to the scene a police officer collected Fakenham’s community defibrillator and it was used to provide four shocks to the patient, before the officer carried out CPR which saved the man’s life.

According to a tweet posted by Norfolk Police shortly after the incident, the man was sitting up and talking as he was taken to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

Fakenham Town Council maintains the defibrillator and a spokesperson said it was “great news” that it had helped to save the man’s life.
