Artwork created to mark 100 years since Armistice will go on display at St Mary’s Church in the village of Whissonett.

The church will show the works and other displays which remember the school children and families living in Whissonett in 1918, and information about the more than 70 men who left the village to join the army, from the beginning of November,

There will also be a special ‘thank you’ to the millions of animals that died in the First World War, and a display about Alfred ‘Darkie’ Howling who served in Palestine in the Camel Corps.

The commemoration follows the church being decorated with fruit, flowers and vegetables for its annual harvest thanksgiving service, which was led by Rev Roger Munday.

Organist Margaret Vincent played well-loved harvest hymns entertained the congregation with a piece of classical organ music.

The congregation also enjoyed a ‘bring and share’# buffet lunch.
