Twelve eggs were delivered to the Year 2 pupils at Toftwood Infant School, outside Dereham, as part of their term topic, air, land and sea.

The special visitors arrived from Living Eggs and the children waited in anticipation for them to hatch.

Eight chicks hatched in total and the children were able to record a video of one of the chicks breaking free. They have also kept a diary of the eggs’ journey, written fact files, and studied the life cycle of chickens.

Joanna Pedlow, headteacher, said: “Staff across the federation are always looking for the best ways to provide exciting and engaging learning opportunities for children at our schools, and supporting understanding with real life experiences.”

One Year 2 pupil said: “It was really exciting to see them hatch.”

Another added: “I’ve really liked watching them move around and they look so cute. It was good to touch them and they felt so soft.”
