Heartfelt floral tributes and messages have been left at the scene of an accident where a man died in a collision involving two lorries on the A47 at Scarning.

The accident took place on a straight section of road between the A1075 and A1065 at around 8.30am on Thursday, February 1.

A male passenger in one of the lorries died at the scene, while both drivers sustained minor injuries.

One of the messages left for the yet unnamed victim read: “We are so so sorry that this happened.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with your loved ones. Rest in peace.”

Other well wishers also left comments to pay tribute to the man.

The road was closed until just after 7pm on Thursday. Norfolk Police posted on Twitter that officers had assisted in a “complex recovery operation” and a crane was needed to remove the vehicles.

One of the vehicles involved was operated by delivery company, DHL.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We are cooperating fully with police in their investigation. While this is underway we are unable to comment further, except to confirm that the safety of the public remains of paramount importance to the company.”

Thomas Semmons, from Scarning, is a young ambassador for road safety with the office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and said too many lives are being lost on Norfolk’s roads following the fatal crash.

Scarning Parish Council recently highlighted the urgency of the situation to the Highways England, following two major accidents last year that resulted in the death of two men.

A spokesperson for Highways England told the council that safety is its “highest priority” and it has a clear understanding of the problems on the A47 through Scarning.

They added that next month work will begin on improving this section of the road.

Meanwhile, Mid-Norfolk MP George Freeman said the latest fatality highlights the “urgency” for dualling the A47.

- Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the incident, should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
