Its brand is synonymous with turkeys – but now Bernard Matthews is working with a different kind of animal.

The poultry producer’s charitable fund has supported a social enterprise which helps to bring joy to care and nursing homes across East Anglia through donkey visits. The company, a member of the EDP/EADT Top 100 list of largest companies in Norfolk and Suffolk by turnover, has donated funds to Miniature Donkeys for Wellbeing - or Mini Donks, for short.

Bernard Matthews HR director Andrew Sherwood said: “As people are living longer, we are all experiencing first-hand family or friends with dementia so we could really connect with what Mini Donks was seeking to achieve.”

Mini Donks founder Sarah McPherson said: “This will make such a big difference to our operation and allow us to bring more smiles to people’s faces and improve people’s mental health and wellbeing.”
