East Anglia could see highs of 25C at the beginning of next week thanks to Hurricane Ophelia.

The storm is crossing the Atlantic Ocean and could bring wet weather and gusts of up to 70mph to the west of the British Isles.

But this region is set to miss the wind and rain and will instead see temperatures above average for this time of year.

Forecasters at Norwich-based Weatherquest said the east will benefit from southerly warm air as a result of the hurricane and temperatures may hit 24C or 25C on Monday and Tuesday with some “hazy sunshine” and a “real warmth” in the air.

Average temperatures for October are usually in the mid-teens.

The warm weather will follow a mild weekend with highs of 23C on Sunday.

The arrival of Ophelia coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Great Storm of 1987 which claimed 18 lives.
