Betty Sanders, a retired widow who lived at Nightingale Care Home, Church Lane, Welborne, near Dereham, was pronounced dead on February 16 a few days after she sustained an injury to her head following a fall.

Opening an inquest into her death in Norwich on Friday Norfolk Coroner William Armstrong said Mrs Sanders, who had a background history of medical problems, collapsed while holding onto her frame on February 11.

She sustained an injury to her head and was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where a scan confirmed her injuries.

She was then returned to the nursing home in accordance with her families wishes until her death on February 16.

Cause of death was stated as a fracture to the skull caused by a collapse which was related to her underlying medical conditions.

The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
