Frontman Danny Beaumont’s first goal since his return to Dereham Town helped the Magpies maintain their momentum on Tuesday.

In his third appearance since beginning his third spell at Aldiss Park the former King’s Lynn Town, Wroxham and Wisbech player netted the winner in Tuesday’s 1-0 home Ryman League Division One North draw against Ware.

That triumph came hot on the heels of Saturday’s hard-fought FA Cup first qualifying round victory against Holbeach United. Jake Anema netted both of the Magpies’ goals in the 2-1 success on their home turf – which landed Matt Henman’s side £3,000 in prize money.

Dereham will not have to travel far when they renew their interest in this season’s competition on Saturday September 17.

For the second round in a row, the Magpies open their doors in the prestigious national knockout.

But it’ll be a far more daunting task for Henman’s Magpies this time around having seen off two sides that play below them in the non-league ladder to ensure their name was in the hat for Monday’s draw at Wembley.

Dereham have landed an Aldiss Park showdown with National League South St Albans City, a team plying their trade at the second-highest grade of the English game outside of the Football League.

The Magpies compete two rungs below that.

Focus will turn to league matches before that tough test though with the visit of Bowers & Pitsea on Saturday before Tuesday night’s trip to Phoenix Sports.

The Ware win was Dereham’s second in five league matches and they will be looking to add to that tally quickly as they try to keep up with the early pacesetters Bury Town – who are unbeaten after six matches.

The midweek trip to Sports presents an opportunity for a maiden away win of the campaign with a draw at Yaxley forcing an eventually victorious FA Cup replay in Norfolk prior to the arrival of Holbeach.

In the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, Dereham Town Reserves head to unbeaten new boys Coggeshall Town on Saturday looking to record their first league win at the ninth attempt.

The Magpies’ second-string, who have lost all of their eight games so far this term, were in action last night – after the paper had gone to print.

They travelled to Wisbech St Mary for a First Division Knockout Cup first round clash against a side they were thumped 6-0 by earlier on in the campaign.

The winner of that tie will visit high-flying Diss Town in the second round on a yet-to-be confirmed date.
