Saturday was all about Bradenham legend Patrick Dewing who was making his 1,300th appearance for the club, according to club records only the second man to do so.

And to make the day even more memorable, his son, William Dewing passed 4,000 runs for the club a week before his 21st birthday.

The game itself was once again rain interrupted after Bradenham had been asked to bat first. Run scoring was hard work at the start and when the first rain fell the home side were 47-3.

After a brief spell back out a much heavier spell of rain moved in and an early tea was taken. When play resumed around 3.40pm Bradenham took advantage of the difficult bowling conditions as Will Dewing and Rob Ellis looked to move the score on.

The pair added 53 before Ellis departed. Graeme Campbell was next in and supported Dewing as they added another 40 before Campbell was run out with a direct hit; 135 then proved to be an unlucky number as three wickets fell there, including Dewing for a belligerent 66.

Skipper Al Bates came and went quickly for 20 before Bradenham finished on 163.

The sun was shining nicely now but Bradenham were going to need to bowl their overs quickly to avoid the gloom likely after 8pm, or take wickets.

After a fast start from the visitors Will Dewing struck, bowling A Riseborough. Run scoring suddenly became harder and wickets fell as Great Witchingham slumped to 67-5 after 23 overs. However, a strong partnership then developed that turned the game away from Bradenham until they took the sixth wicket on 130 in the 39th over.

In the end it all came down to the penultimate ball where the visitors scampered a single to snatch the victory.

Bradenham travel to Saham Toney on Saturday.

On the final night of junior coaching, organisers finished with a 16-a-side, pairs game combining all age groups whicn, for the third consecutive year, ended in a draw.

After the game, chairman Tim Evans presented the U11 and U13 awards to Ciaran Lake, Mikyla Oswick, Georgia Taylor. Harvey Moody and Joshua Watts. Special thanks go to Dave Caffyn for his tireless work in organising all of the junior coaching dates.
