Dereham’s revival gathered pace on Saturday when they became the first side this season to topple Norfolk Alliance Division One front-runners Bradfield.

Having lost their opening two fixtures, Duncan Hewitt’s side made it three wins on the trot as they saw off their high-flying visitors by 107 runs.

As a result they moved up to sixth in the table, just 29 points adrift of new leaders Thetford.

After being put into pat Dereham did well to get up to 228-9 after a nervy start, with opener Hewitt scoring 37 and Jame Anema 27 before Joe Marczewski weighed with a crucial unbeaten 53 from No 9.

Dereham were helped by some indiscipline from the visiting bowlers, with their tally boosted by no fewer than 32 wides.

In reply Bradfield were dismissed for 121 in the 38th over, with James Harbour taking 3-40 and Anema, Hewitt and David Lake all taking two wickets.

Dereham’s next challenge is a match against Vauxhall Mallards A at Halvergate on Saturday (1pm).

It was also a good day for Mattishall in the same section as they finally recorded their first league win of the season,

They restricted Mallards to 212-8, with Jason Cole taking 4-41, and then got home with a degree of comfort, finishing on 213-2 in the 39th over (Sam Davison 66).

Mattishall now have what looks like a decent change to build on their win, with a home match coming up on Saturday against Lowestoft Town, who are now 20 points adrift at the bottom of the table after losing all five of their matches so far,

Mattishall A were beaten by 68 runs against Great Melton A in Division Five, finishing on 216-7 when chasing a daunting total of 284-3.

Sam Mann (146) and Joe Greenslade (107 not out) dominated the Melton innings while skipper Keenan Stokes top scored for Mattishall with 46 as the run chase fell well short.

In Division Six Dereham A were bowled out for 178 by Topcroft A, who got come with six wickets to spare.

Mattishall A are away to Old Catton on Saturday while Dereham A host Horsford B, with both matches getting under way at 1pm.
