Dereham Otters took part in round three of the East Midlands region National Arena Swimming League, where they were looking to continue their success from round two.

It was a hard fought round against clubs from Nottingham, Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.

The competition was tight but the atmosphere, noise and support poolside was amazing from the swimmers and supporters alike.

The 22 strong Dereham team competed in 50 individual and team events, producing 12 personal best times and seeing off the competition with an impressive win on the night.

The club finished joint seventh in the National Arena League East Midlands Division Two.

More recently, Dereham swimmers competed in the Norfolk County Swimming Championships over two weekends in January.

Forty eight swimmers from the club achieved the qualifying times to swim at the championships, held at the UEA Sportspark in Norwich.

The Otters had some outstanding performances with 317 personal best times from 342 events, 62 finalists and 36 individual medals for top three finishes.

First place finishes were achieved by Molly Monk, Ruby Dagless and Charlie Summer.

The club also had three swimmers, Kioni Broomfield, Callum Stedman and Ruby Dagless, receive their Norfolk Colours for representing Norfolk in four inter county competitions while Will Appleby received the silver award for representing Norfolk in 12 competitions.

All the swimmers deserved praise and are grateful to the volunteer officials team managers and to the coaching team for all their help and support at the events.

Hockey: There was disappointment at Greenfields Road on Saturday, with the big East League Premier B derby match between Dereham and Norwich City being called off because of a frozen pitch.

Dereham Ladies’ scheduled East League Division One North home clash with Colchester went the same way, while the seconds were also inactive, but the men’s second team did see some action, drawing 3-3 at Harleston Magpies III in Division Two North.

On Saturday Dereham men are away to Ipswich and East Suffolk and the Ladies travel to Bedford seconds.
