Dan Zelos justified swapping teams to contest this year’s Renault UK Clio Cup with two solid top 10 performances to leave Brands Hatch in joint sixth place in the series.

“Great result in finishing seventh,” remarked the Dereham racer who had just matched his best result of the 2016 season at the Brands Hatch opening race.

“Great job all round from the WDE boys. Starting further up the grid for race two so let’s keep improving.”

Despite his best efforts Zelos wasn’t able to improve on his race one result having fallen down to 11th place on the opening lap before fighting back to eighth place at the finish.

Topcroft’s Harry Webb completed a late deal to compete in the F4 British Championship Challenge Cup, contested over seven rounds, which also started its season off at the Kent circuit.

“I’ve really enjoyed the weekend and it’s just a shame we had the problem in qualifying,” reflected the karting champion.

“That put us on the back foot for the races as it’s really difficult to pass around here, so we didn’t have the opportunity to show our real potential in terms of the results.”

Hampered by the engine cutting out in qualifying the Norfolk racer would start race one from 14th on the grid and claimed 12th place with a late pass on Yves Baltas.

Starting race two from 12th place Webb took 10th place and his first full championship point which he repeated in the third and final race having once more demoted Baltas late in the race.

“What is encouraging is the pace in all three races was really good, and I think we’ve made good improvements throughout the weekend,” concluded Webb.

Harry King left Brands Hatch, and the opening round of the Ginetta Junior Championship, in a solid third place racing for the Shipdham based Elite Motorsport squad.

A sudden downpour two laps from the end of the opening race mixed up the order with King able to claim second place to start his season off with an excellent result.

King had a tough time hanging onto fourth place in race two but he used all of his experience gained last year to ensure he claimed the position to finish up just seven points shy of the series leading Sebastian Priaulx.
