The Magpies had to settle for a point on their travels.

Neal Simmons’ men took time to settle on the heavy playing surface, but on 15 minute Rhys Logan picked up keeper Elliot Pride’s long clearance and rounded his man before delivering a dangerous low cross that caused Hertford problems.

Minutes later Ashley Jarvis looked to be impeded by defender Jay Lovell as he homed in on goal.

Dereham won a free-kick 20 yards out after Jamie Forshaw was upended in the 23rd minute and Danny Beaumont’s curler was deflected then turned on to the bar by keeper Charlie Mann.

As the visiting pressure began to mount Jake Anema delivered the ball back into the box and Mann made a great save to keep out Ollie Ebbage’s volley.

Logan outpaced two markers down the right and delivered a pacy low ball and home skipper Ollie Sharman was fortunate to see his attempted clearance nestle in keeper Mann’s arms as the half finished goalless.

At the start of the second half Hertford’s Daniel Palmer headed George Lutaaya’s centre into Pride’s arms. Play became scrappy as both sides looked for the opener.

The home side missed a good chance in the 63rd minute when Charles Cole picked up a sliced clearance and progressed before firing off target from the edge of the box.

They came close again when Phil Lowen’s dipping 25-yard volley just cleared the bar. In the 81st minute home keeper Mann had to race from his line to clear from Forshaw. Castellan and Ebbage were commanding in the centre of the Magpies defence with the draw a fair result.

Dereham remain third in the table, nine points behind second-placed Bowers & Pitsea, but with two games in hand.
