Manager Matt Henman is boosted by two players returning from injury for Dereham Town’s trip to Redbridge.

Defender Harry Barker is available again after a broken foot and midfielder Adam Smith returns from a hamstring problem ahead of the journey to north-east London

“It’s an excellent boost for us,” Henman said. “They are two outstanding players who have been amiss for quite a while now.”

The Magpies thumped Redbridge 4-0 at Aldiss Park in their third game of the season back in August and both teams have continued in similar form ever since.

The hosts sit 21st in the table with just six wins from 23 games, while Dereham are ninth and with three games in hand on some of the teams above them.

The Motormen go into the game with their spirits raised though, after a 4-3 win at bottom-of-the-table Burnham Ramblers last weekend.

Dereham’s morale was also boosted with a 2-1 home win against Romford, ending a run of three games without a win.

“We go into the game with a lot of confidence,” Henman continued. “It was vital that we won our home game last week and it was probably a bit more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.

“Every team in this division is tough away from home for us and we’ll have to contend with not one of the greatest pitches so we’ll have to adapt to that.”

The Dereham boss is hopeful that his team’s league position will also soon improve, with a match at lowly Cray Wanderers on Tuesday being followed by a trip to 10th-placed Waltham Abbey.

Henman continued: “We feel if we play well we have the ability to win games.

“We look upon the next two or three matches as an opportunity to try and maintain and improve our position and get into the play-offs.”
