Dereham may have to grind out another win if they want to add three points to their Ryman League North tally.

The Magpies worked extremely hard to edge Heybridge Swifts 1-0 in the rain at Aldiss Park last Saturday as an own goal proved to be the difference.

Dereham manager Matt Henman said: “Saturday was all about getting the result and another win on the board.”

It looks like they’ll have to do the same again this afternoon with FA Trophy heroes Thamesmead Town the visitors.

The Kent side compete at the lowest tier of those allowed to enter the national knockout competition and have progressed all the way from the preliminary stage to next weekend’s third qualifying round, where they will take on Hungerford Town.

Goals from Derek Duncan and Paul Vines gave the Mead arguably their finest Trophy result, a 2-0 win over higher-ranked Ryman League Premier Division Enfield, on Saturday

They are doing well in Ryman North too and currently sit ninth in the table – four places above Dereham from five games fewer.

Overnight rain accounted for two of the three East Anglian Premier League matches scheduled for Norfolk on Saturday – and Swardeston’s players would doubtless have preferred it if the other one had suffered the same fate.
