Hindringham have appointed Darren Gill as their new first team coach.

The Anglian Combination Division One side needed to appoint a new coach after Asa Saunders decided he had given all he could give over a number of years.

Former Norwich City youth player Gill comes with 20 years of football experience at a higher level, having played for Wroxham, Norwich United, Fakenham and Bury, collecting three Senior Cups, four League Cups and eight league winners’ medals.

He locally is well known for being the founder of Hindolveston youth set-up which now operates at Holt FC. He is now doing his UEFA B licence and his arrival is a real coup for the club.

Michael Spinks, first team manager, said: “I am really excited that Darren has agreed to come and join us and I hope this will be the lift we need to help us climb team table.

“We thank Asa for all his hard work and efforts for such a long time. I am delighted to welcome Darren to the club. He brings great experience and knowledge. We hope this can help us push up the league for the rest of the season.”

Hindringham welcomed Mundford to The Elms for their sixth league game of the season on Saturday and were beaten 4-1 by a side who started the day second in the table.

The first half was a tight affair with both defences coming out on top, the most notable chance for the home side coming from a Ryan Vertigan header which looped over the crossbar.

The second half got off to a bad start with Hindringham conceding within five minutes and then moments later a bizarre own goal was scored by Lawlor to put Mundford 2-0 ahead.

This sparked Hindringham into life and the home side started to play some good football but were hit with a sucker punch when the Mundford number 10 produced a great bit of skill to get a shot off into the top corner.

Hindringham instantly got a reply through a Broughton header but Mundford killed the game off with five minutes to go, hitting Hindringham on the break to win the game 4-1.

It has been a tough start to the season for The Village but they have played most the early season contenders.

Next up is a match against Hoveton Wherryman at home (2.30pm kick-off).
