Mollie Patterson picked up some good victories as she performed on the international stage at the Swedish Youth Open.

The 14-year-old Brancaster Staithe player won two of her three group matches in the Cadet Girls’ Singles, beating Jia-Yu Sung of the USA 3-0 and the host nation’s Nomin Baasan 3-0.

Despite defeat in her other group match, going down 3-0 to Germany’s Anastasia Bondareva, Patterson qualified for the last 32.

However, her run came to an end at the hands of Yat Poon of Hong Kong, who won 3-0.

In the Fakenham Table Tennis League, Snoring A were involved in four matches over the past couple of weeks and came away with big wins in all to close in on their first league title.

Steve Damms, David Foster and Chris Fuller took on a Billingford side of David Lake, Tony Wright and Arthur Lake. Wright picked up Billingford’s second point with a win over Damms but Foster and Fuller both scored maximums and teamed up in the doubles to seal a 8-2 win.

Next up was a trip to Bircham B where they came away with a 9-1 win, Fuller and Damms winning three each, backed up by Garry Crew who had two good wins against Paul King and Neville Lingwood but lost to Stefan Iwanczyk.

They followed that with a good win over a strong Thorpe Nelson side of Mary-Ann Woodhouse, Mick Ruffles and Steve Hales. Hales and Ruffles took a leg off Fuller, Foster dropped a set to Ruffles and Steve Price came from two sets down to beat Ruffles in five legs. Foster and Fuller combined to win the doubles a for a 10-0 scoreline.

The Snoring derby followed as Foster, Fuller and Crew took on Ian Reynolds, Martin Boddy and Dan Humphrey. The first two matches went to the A side before Crew took the opening leg from Reynolds, who hit back to take the next three legs to get Snoring B side on the board. Some close games followed, including Humphrey taking a leg off Fuller but the A side won the remaining games for a 9-1 victory.

An unchanged Snoring B side travelled to Conservatives Andrew Edgeley, Dennis Chamberlain and Pat Johnson and were involved in a very tight match. that ended in a 5-5 draw. Thorpe Nelson’s Woodhouse, Ruffles and Hales beat Bircham B 7-3.
