Dereham Town face an FA Trophy replay on Tuesday evening after behind denied a preliminary round win by a late equaliser.

The Magpies looked to be going into the next round until the 90th minute when the hosts grabbed a lifeline.

Dereham had to deal with a succession of crosses into their box in the opening minutes as the home side applied early pressure, with David Knight firing into keeper Elliot Pride’s arms.

But they came close to opening the scoring in the 12th minute when Ryan Crisp’s shot was deflected onto home keeper Callum Chafer’s bar.

Bowers had two good chances, with Tony Stokes failing to convert from close range and, minutes later Magpies keeper Pride made a fine stop to deny James Thomas.

After Jamie Forshaw replaced Crisp for Dereham, Danny Beaumont delivered a quality low cross from the right that Ashley Jarvis just failed to reach.

Bowers took the lead after the break when Stokes picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and beat the advancing Pride in the 49th minute.

It was all square in the 63rd minute when Rhys Logan picked up Beaumont’s ball over the defence and calmly lifted it over Chafer.

Dereham began to play with more confidence and Logan cut in from the right before firing against the bar. The pressure was rewarded on 71 minutes after Beaumont curled a free-kick across goal and Ollie Ebbage applied the finishing touch to put them in front.

But then came the hammer blow as Bowers won a corner on the right and Jamie Dicks centre came out to Ben Sartain 30 yards out and he thundered a shot against the bar, Stokes netting the rebound.
