Archant Norfolk 2017

Fakenham Town recorded an excellent 1-0 win at Emerald Park on Friday evening to condemn Stewart Larter to his fourth defeat in four games since becoming Gorleston boss.

The victory followed hard on the heels of a morale-boosting 2-1 home success over Hadleigh the previous weekend and took the Ghosts off the foot of the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division table.

The first shot on target didn’t come until the 38th minute through a Connor Ingram free-kick from 25 yards out which Fakenham keeper Luke Pearson pushed wide.

The Greens began the second half well, with Luke Goreham playing a nice one-two before unleashing a shot from the edge of the box which Pearson palmed away.

Kyle Plumb saw a shot go wide before Fakenham took the lead in the 57th minute when a corner from the right was met first in a crowded six yard box by Jimmy Williams.

Five minutes later a rush of blood from Reece Taylor saw him lash out at Kyle Ingram by the touchline and earn himself a straight red card.

The Greens piled forward against 10 men but they found keeper Pearson equal to everything.

Substitute Ross Gilfedder had two efforts in the five added on minutes but both were straight at the keeper.

Fakenham: Pearson, Atkins, Calvert (Nelson 69), Sturman (D Williams 50), Gilchrist, J Williams, Akers, Cantwell, Plumb, Claxton (Skipper 90), Taylor.

Fakenham are at home to Stowmarket on Saturday and travel to Great Yarmouth Town on Tuesday evening.

The Bloaters should be fired up for that one, after travelling to Clipbush Park earlier in the season only for the match to be called off at short notice when behind-the-scenes issues prompted a revolt from the home players,

An extraordinary general meeting will be held at 7.30pm next Wednesday to elect officers and set up a committee.

Another priority for the Ghosts is to appoint a new manager, with caretakers having been in charge since the exit of Robbie Harris in September.
