Football: Wells Town lose after going ahead - but it’s all smiles for Reserves

Wells Town slipped to defeat in their latest Anglian Combination Division Two fixture at Thetford Rovers on Saturday, going down 2-1 after being ahead with 20 minutes left.

The Seasiders travelled to Euston Park with some players again having called off at the last minute but straight from the first whistle they had the hosts pinned back.

They used the slope to their advantage and restricted Rovers to long range shots that hardly troubled the defence.

After forcing several corners that the hosts cleared a Luke Goss flag kick was turned in to the goal by Jay Myhill, giving the visitors the advantage. The hosts started to panic and Wells really should have made better advantage of the slope - it would have been no injustice if they added three further goals.

The second half started with the visitors still ahead although Rovers started to push them back. With 20 minutes remaining the hosts levelled before the hosts won the match with a low drive.

There is a local derby on Saturday (2pm) when Wells play host to promotion-chasing Fakenham Reserves.

There was an excellent result for the club at Beach Road on Saturday Wells Reserves beat Necton 1-0 to record their first win of the season in Division Five North.

After weeks of struggling the Seasiders won this contest by a goal scored by Ryan Daly only a few minutes in to the match. Wells should have capitalised on this advantage but failed to add further goals but they turned in a hard-working performance to ensure they kept a clean sheet.

Wells Reserves travel to Castle Acre Swifts, who are top of the table, on Saturday, 2pm.
