Wells Town well beaten by the league leaders

PUBLISHED: 08:35 19 October 2017

Wells Town slipped to a disappointing 5-1 defeat at top-of-the-table Easton who were clinical in front of goal.

The visitors matched Easton in most departments for the first 35 minutes before a looping header dropped in behind a stranded Joe Simpson.

Wells went close before the interval before the hosts added a second when the ball was parried out and the striker powered the ball in the net.

The second half started with Wells knowing the next goal could be crucial and Ross Brewster collected a neat chip over the defence to give the visitors a life line.

The changing factor in this match was a soft penalty which was converted to kill off any real chance of recovery, with two late goals making it five.

Wells Town travel to East Harling on Saturday (2pm) while Wells Reserves host Castle Acre at Beach Road (2pm).

Elsewhere in Division Two Fakenham Town Reserves moved up to second in the table with a 4-1 win at Thetford Rovers, with all the visitors’ goals coming in the first half. Ben Darby and Joe Harrison scored two apiece for the Ghosts, who make the short trip to Holt on Saturday.

Bradenham Wanderers bowed out of the Norfolk Senior Cup when they were beaten 4-0 at high-flying Norwich CEYMS, the goals coming from Lewis McKerrell, Darrell Delaney, David Tayler and an own goal. Hindringham also exited the competition, going down 2-0 at Scole (Ben Norton-Hugman, Connor Kerry).

Bradenham return to league action at St Andrews on Saturday while Hindringham visit North Walsham on Friday evening (7.30pm).
