Some of the stars of this year’s BBC Proms will be making an appearance at a village’s music festival.

Whinburgh Music Festival will feature performances from the Cellophonics cello quartet, two of its members are pert of the Proms, as well as Michael Atkinson, part of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and Benedict Rogerson, a member of the John Wilson Orchestra, who will be hotfooting it over from a late night tribute to Frank Sinatra.

The three-day festival, now in its fourth year, has a mixed programme with a barn dance on Friday night, cello concert on Saturday and a classical concert of Vivaldi’s Gloria and Mozart Requiem on Sunday.

The dance will be held at Home Farm Barn, Whinburgh, with a performance from Hosepipe.

On the Saturday there will be a cello masterclass before Cellophonics bring their innovative style to the festival in an evening concert at St Mary’s Church, on Church Road, Whinburgh.

Sunday sees the return of the Iceni Choir to the festival.

This leading local choir alongside guest soloists from the Royal College of Music will perform two well-loved choral pieces Vivaldi’s Gloria and the Mozart Requiem.

There is a further local link to the festival with Home Cooked 4 You ready to feed hungry dancers during the barn dance with their range of locally sourced dishes cooked in their Norfolk home.

The festival takes place from Friday, August 7 to Sunday, August 9.

Full details of the programme, tickets and information on workshops are available on the festival website www.whinburghmusicfestival.co.uk.

All proceeds will go towards church funds.
