A new beer has been created to celebrate a Norfolk railway station's re-opening 50 years after it closed.

The Whitwell Wobbler has been brewed by Woodfordes as part of the re-opening of the Whitwell and Reepham Station, near Reepham in north Norfolk.

The station closed on March 2, 1959, but, having been left empty and derelict for years, new owner Mike Urry has brought it back to life, complete with 1,500ft of track and a steam train service.

As part of two open weekends the station is holding a beer festival on Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8, complete with 13 railway inspired real ales.

Others include Brunel IPA, Station Porter, Whistle Stop and Steam Beer, all on tap in the former M&GN station building about one mile out of Reepham.

The beer festival will be open from 10am until late both evenings.

There is also a hog roast and other refreshments and food as well as a running steam train, open station and memorabilia on show.

There is also a reunion at the station of all those who took the train to school in Fakenham, Melton Constable and Norwich, especially city grammar schools via City Station, in the early 1950s until the line's closure.

It will be on Sunday, March 8.
