Plans have been put forward which could see a new pizza takeaway in Dereham.

An application has been submitted to Breckland Council on behalf of the takeaway chain Caprinos Pizza to open a new unit at 28A High Street, where Knitwits used to trade from, and across from the Bull pub.

The chain has 90 branches across the country.

In documents supporting the application, it states: “The client seeks to obtain permission for the above site where they are looking to operate a small business selling hot oven baked foods on a takeaway basis including some limited seating.

“The client will be promoting a ‘walk local’ and ‘eat local’ ethic to ensure the impact on the highway network is kept to a minimum.

“Furthermore the proposed use will not require specific customer parking due to the way the business aims to operate for local shoppers and its sustainable location within Dereham Town Centre.”

There has been an objection to the plans from Nigel Barton, at The Bull Inn, in a document on the application's page stated: "Dereham, already has a multitude of this type of establishment, and within 500 meters we have a Greggs, Costa Coffee, Flour & Bean, and Starbucks, plus a couple of cafes.

"Dereham needs more varied types of retain units to get people into the town."

It also states that no further external alterations proposed for the desired use apart from the external extraction outlet to the rear elevation.

A decision on the proposal is expected by May 22.
